print:
The poster is very dark and cloudy with a vertical skyline of the town in black, which gives of an ominous feeling and the dark colours connote danger and that there is something very bad that is going to happen to this town or has already happened to it. The light blue shine line at the top of the tower connotes something magical or extraterrestrial is happening. The towns skyline is complete black and very rigid and block like which makes it appear like the town is a small simpleton town. Due to the poster evoking curiosity in us it could relate to that undeniable curiosity that all children have.

broadcast:
The first image captured in the Super 8 trailer gives us a sense of era through the use of the old fashioned cars, the kid riding a bike and the way the buildings looks, this mise-en-scene already shows you that the film is set in a different era. The opening starts with non-diegetic sounds which allows the film to seem a little magical which allows you to feel a sense of childhood as this music is normally associated with fantasy which typically relates to children. We are also able to see era through the use of the camera that the kids are using to conduct the movie they are making as it is really old fashioned, also when we see the footage they found being played back we are able to see the film role on the projector showing that it is set in the olden days. The use of the old train running on the train track also shows  a sense of era as we don't see trains like that nowadays and the explosion and the diegetic booming sounds allow the scene to feel very real and thrilling, yet because we see the camera has dropped but is still running we know that there is a mystery to be found out. The camera shots range from long shots to close ups allowing the trailer to at first emit a slow pace, the editing with the lights dimming and the next scene appearing allows an ominous feel to be added to trailer which makes the audience feel curious and we know that the kids will find out the truth.  Also the dim lighting makes everything seem real yet dangerous. All narratives follow Propps theory of the eight spheres of action with the young boys being the hero, the girl the princess, the friends the helpers etc.

Movie marketing madness: "The official website opens and begins playing one of the 30-second TV spots that was produced and released. That in and of itself says something about how the campaign here is trying to reach a mass audience who’s more interested in some spectacle than with deep stuff about shooting a movie and an emotional investigation into the mystery."
